The Armor of God Cowboy Style
Eph. 6 : 10-18
It was finally the day of the big rodeo. It seemed like everyone in the stands had their eyes on a long haired, bearded, 30-something cowboy who was walking with a limp towards the area behind the bucking chutes at the arena hoping to talk to the young cowboy who had drawn the horse, Old Diablo.
"Howdy cowboy! I saw that you drew Old Diablo. Do you know anything about him?" The cowboy shook his head and said, "no Sir." "Well, then let me tell you what I know about him. He's the meanest one around. He's been known for bucking cowboys off for ages then coming back to stomp them til there's no more life in them. He's a killer, and if you're going to make it, you need to heed my advice:
You have to put on your gear or you won't make it."
He said, "First, you have to chinch down your LATIGO of TRUTH on your saddle. If your saddle isn't on tight, you can't ride upright and it's the Truth that keeps you from slipping.
Second, you have to put on your PROTECTIVE VEST OF RIGHTEOUS. It will protect your heart, and Diablo wants to win and destroy your heart.
Third, put on your high top COWBOY BOOTS OF PEACE. They'll help you stay firm-footed when you ride in front of others.
Fourth, put on your CHAPS OF FAITH that will protect you from the cactus of lies and the thorns of deceit that come at you.
Fifth, put on your COWBOY HAT OF SALVATION. It's a complete covering for you all the time, and it will protect your thoughts and mind and help you when things get hot.
Sixth, when things get tough, pull out your SCATTER-GUN OF THE WORD OF GOD. Nothing can stand up to the Word. It will help you through rough times when nothing else will.
And seventh, don't forget to talk to the Trail Boss often."
As the limping cowboy started walking off after talking to the young cowboy about Old Diablo, the kid noticed the limping cowboy had a fancy trophy belt buckle that said,
Champion of Champions. The young cowboy said to the limping cowboy, "Why are you limping? Did Old Diablo injure you?" "Naw," said the cowboy, "I rode him in the dirt. What I did was step on a NAIL!"
Happy Trails to you with JESUS,
Larry
